I’m Gerhard Funabiki-Senz, a sound designer and audio developer based between Tokyo and Vienna. I’ve spent years working with synthesizers, field recordings, and sound for film — including The 49th Year (dir. Heidrun Holzfeind), which won the Jury Prize at Hot Docs. Echograin is where I turn that experience into instruments and sounds you can use in your own music.
Instruments with character
Echograin makes software instruments and sound packs for producers who want something with personality, not another folder of generic presets. Tranzwave is a Kontakt synthesizer built from carefully sampled wavetables of the Ensoniq Fizmo, a rare 90s synth that’s no longer made. Petrichor is a sound pack inspired by the Japanese rainy season. Everything I release starts from my own recordings and my own ears.
Made by someone who actually uses it
Tranzwave exists because I didn’t want the Fizmo’s wavetables to disappear. I sampled them, rebuilt them, and shaped them into an instrument I wanted to play myself. I founded Echograin in 2022 to give that work a proper home. When you buy from Echograin, you get sounds made with care, products that keep getting updated, and a developer who answers his own email.
